Stress is not only psychological; it also causes bodily changes. When fear, worry, or negative emotions arise, the body produces chemicals called stressors. These chemicals increase blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, and blood sugar. Stress can be acute, chronic, or subtle; every type worsens diabetes control. Sometimes even when stress reduces, blood sugar does not immediately normalize—hence stress management is necessary.
Lifestyle changes are more effective for controlling stress than relying on medicines. A balanced diet, daily exercise, pranayama and yoga, and achievable goals are key. Positive thinking, a sense of humor, and doing things for others also act as stress-busters. These reduce stress chemicals and increase feel-good pheromones. As Lord Shri Krishna advised Arjuna, repeated effort and detachment help bring the mind under control. With less stress, diabetes control becomes easier and life healthier.
